Dealer buyer guide
What documents are required to export used EVs from China?
Direct answer
Plan for ownership and registration records, the export contract, inspection evidence, an export licence, customs documents and transport documents. Destination import approval is a separate check. The precise pack depends on the vehicle and transaction.

Practical steps
- Identify the exporter and match the VIN, brand, model and registration dates across the registration certificate and contract. Ask which entity holds the export qualification and applies for the licence.
- Confirm transfer-for-export registration, the required export inspection report and export licence before release. For vehicles within 180 days of registration, including the boundary stated in the 2025 notice, confirm the manufacturer-issued after-sales service confirmation requirement effective from 1 January 2026.
- Agree the commercial invoice, shipment inventory, customs declaration, bill of lading and insurance evidence appropriate to the agreed terms. Confirm destination-required origin documents, translations and approvals with the importer.
- Keep a closing file with customs clearance and registration cancellation records. Assign an owner to each missing document before booking.
Evidence and limits
Compare original records with the physical VIN and record the review date.
An export licence does not establish eligibility for registration in the importing country.
Confirm current requirements with the relevant authority, technical service and carrier for the exact VIN and destination before purchase or shipment.
