Import EVs to
Poland

Poland offers Baltic entry through Gdańsk and Gdynia and access to the wider EU market. A robust landed-cost plan should separate the 10% base customs duty, 23% VAT, any producer-specific EU countervailing duty on China-origin BEVs, and local handling and registration costs. Pure battery-electric passenger cars can benefit from Poland's excise-duty exemption. Confirm EU type approval, Certificate of Conformity, charging interface and current incentive availability before purchase.

MARKET OVERVIEW

What importers need to plan

01

Import and tax treatment

Use a 10% EU passenger-car customs-duty baseline and Poland's 23% standard VAT for initial planning. China-origin battery-electric vehicles may also be subject to a manufacturer-specific EU countervailing duty of 7.8% to 35.3%; verify the exact TARIC treatment at customs clearance. Eligible battery-electric passenger cars are exempt from Polish excise duty.

02

EV incentives

Battery-electric and hydrogen passenger cars qualify for a Polish excise-duty exemption when statutory conditions are met. The NaszEauto programme supports eligible new zero-emission M1, M2 and N1 vehicles, but its budget was already over-subscribed in 2026 and later applications were conditional on available funds.

03

Used-vehicle policy

Used imports are possible, but customs clearance, proof of ownership, the foreign registration document, technical inspection where required, and EU or individual approval evidence must be available. The registration application is generally due within 30 days after customs release; confirm translation and local authority requirements for the exact vehicle.

04

Certification

EU whole-vehicle type approval and a valid Certificate of Conformity provide the clearest registration route. A China-market vehicle without EU type approval may require individual approval and technical inspection before registration in Poland.

05

Charging compatibility

Type 2 for AC and CCS2 for DC are the European compatibility target. A China-market GB/T vehicle requires a verified charging solution and must not compromise type approval or registration eligibility.

06

Shipping route

Typical entry points: Gdańsk; Gdynia. Indicative China-to-port transit: 35–50 days.
