Import EVs to
Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is landlocked and is usually supplied through Hamburg, Bremerhaven or Koper with onward rail or road transport. Plan for 10% base customs duty, 21% VAT, any applicable China-BEV countervailing duty, inland delivery and approval costs. Verify type approval and the exact registration route before shipment.

MARKET OVERVIEW

What importers need to plan

01

Import and tax treatment

Use a 10% EU passenger-car customs-duty baseline and the Czech Republic's 21% standard VAT for initial planning. China-origin battery-electric vehicles may also be subject to a manufacturer-specific EU countervailing duty of 7.8% to 35.3%; verify the producer, vehicle scope and current TARIC treatment before customs clearance. Include inland freight from the EU entry port and local approval and registration costs.

02

EV incentives

Battery-electric or hydrogen vehicles can qualify for a zero vehicle-registration administrative fee when the application is made together with the relevant electric-vehicle registration plate. Other tax, toll, parking or business incentives depend on current national and local rules.

03

Used-vehicle policy

Used vehicles require origin registration documents, proof of ownership, roadworthiness and registration inspection evidence, insurance and customs clearance for non-EU imports. If the vehicle lacks recognized EU-wide type approval, an individual imported-vehicle approval decision is required.

04

Certification

EU whole-vehicle type approval and a Certificate of Conformity simplify registration. A vehicle imported from outside the EU without recognized type approval must have its technical roadworthiness approved through the Czech imported-vehicle procedure and may need inspection or testing.

05

Charging compatibility

Type 2 for AC and CCS2 for DC are the European compatibility target. A China-market GB/T vehicle requires a verified charging solution and must not compromise type approval or registration eligibility.

06

Shipping route

Typical entry points: Hamburg; Bremerhaven; Koper. Indicative China-to-port transit: 35–50 days.

Important planning notice
