The pricing narrative is changing Stories about collapsing used-electric-car values dominated the market for several years. They are incomplete guides to 2026. Depreciation varies enormously by brand, mileage, launch incentives, trim level and generation. A market average can also rise because relatively expensive late-model vehicles form a larger share of listings. What dealer listings show Cox Automotive estimated the average advertised used-EV price at $38,342 in June 2026. Its July figure was $37,832, down 1.2% month over month but 8.3% higher year over year. These are listing prices, not verified final transaction prices. Recurrent’s September 30, 2026 market report likewise found used-EV retail prices around 8% above the prior year and broadly stable over the preceding months. Why averages can mislead Used-EV supply now includes more recent premium trucks and SUVs, but also older compact vehicles with very different purchase economics. Mixing the two can hide real bargains and real risks. A dealer evaluating a three-year-old vehicle should compare that exact model and battery version with similarly equipped listings, not solely the average price of every used EV on the market. A pricing framework for importers Start with comparable retail prices at destination, subtract local taxes and duty, inland distribution, sea freight, inspection, reconditioning, warranty reserves and a risk allowance. Evaluate the expected time required to sell the vehicle. The resulting maximum acquisition price should guide negotiation in the source country. Where the buyer requests an EU-market specification, do not treat a China-market model with the same badge as an interchangeable substitute. Looking ahead Prices may continue to fluctuate as off-lease supply, incentives, import policy and model mix evolve. The most resilient used-EV operators will build repeatable VIN-level valuation methods and refresh price assumptions monthly.
